Nightline Carriers invest in communications security for customers and employees

Ireland's largest independent parcels carrier has installed the latest computer-based security systems in each of its new fleet of 160+ vehicles -providing greatly enhanced security not only for customers' parcels, but also for drivers travelling throughout the country.

Nightline Air Express Worldwide of Dublin has expanded its successful international parcels handling business with the purchase of new Ford Transit 350s, Mercedes Sprinters, various box bodies and 40 foot trailers, each with an Aplicom vehicle computer installed and provided with application software by Satcom Technology, Aplicom's system partner in Ireland.

Parcel carrier's drivers get the security of Aplicom in-vehicle computers and communications

Special Distribution Services (SDS) is a division of the national postal service, An Post. It's fleet of 150 vehicles from 3.5 tonne vans to articulated trunkers, and truck and trailer combinations is the country's largest national parcels carrier for goods between 1kg and 30kg.

SDS often carries high value goods - putting the near 200 drivers at constant risk as they travel the country's roads. Historically, the problem was communications technology that relied on two-way radios -successful for direct, verbal communications, but potentially disastrous for drivers and their cargo in terms of security.

Satcom Technology Ltd bring Mobisoft Mobirouter to Ireland

In February 2001 the then Minister for Public Enterprise, Mary O' Rourke, announced she was making £3.5 million available for pilot transport projects in rural parts of the country.

The new scheme, the Rural Transport Initiative (RTI), is aimed at nurturing the creation of transport services in more isolated parts of the country. The initiative is being targeted at community-based groups who believe they have transport projects worthy of funding.
